16-bit ALU in minecraftFeb 22, 2012
This is the first part of a planned 16-bit computer that will run entirely in minecraft. That computer will be "Hack" compatible, which is to say that it'll run code meant for the Hack machine described in The Elements of Computing Systems (a fantastic book that you should look up if you are at all interested in how computers work. Its website is www.idc.ac.il ). Some more info: The design was drawn up in a program called Redstone Simulator (does what it says on the tin), which was written by Baezon on the Minecraft Forums www.minecraftforum.net MCEdit ( minecraftforums.net ) was used to help clear off space and import the design into minecraft. Hours of experimenting with prototypes, modifications to the design, and debugging took place in the game itself, however. This project is far from over. Memory, here I come...

India creates world's cheapest computerFeb 21, 2012
At the low price of $45, the world's cheapest computer tablet, made in India, is targeted mostly at students. In a country where laptops range from anywhere between $400 and $1000, and where the average income is much lower, the hope is that more people, particularly the country's youth, will have greater access to technology. In the next few months over 100000 such computers will be available in select universities. If successful, India may even sell it commercially, but experts say the design still has a long way to go. Al Jazeera's Prerna Suri reports from New Delhi, India.
Speed Up Your Computer In 5 Minutes - Video 1 of 3Feb 21, 2012
Hi! My name is Gabe Belanger, MCSE BSc., of Computer Geeks On Call ( sales@computergeeksoncall.ca ). I have been working in the IT industry for 9+ years and I wanted to provide some training for one of the most common issues I deal with each day: slow computers. In about 5 minutes you will be able to safely and effectively speed up your computer and free up some RAM. How? This is done by disabling programs that run automatically when you start your computer. How do these programs get on your system? They come with the installation of programs such as Norton Anti-virus, Microsoft Office, etc. The problem happens not with one or two programs but with say 10 or 20 programs you install over a few months - the extra processing required to run these, often unecessary progams, slowly but surely slow down your computer. Best of all this tool is included with Windows 98, ME, XP and VISTA. It is something every person should do to keep their system running quickly. Adding RAM is often not a solution and neither is getting a new, faster computer - eventually as you install software the computer will slow down again because of the sheer number of extra programs that run.

Why is My Computer Running Slow?Feb 20, 2012
www.lockergnome.com - Is your computer really getting slow, or is it just a matter of perspective? Sure, over time it's normal for your system to get bogged down with software that makes the height of its efficiency somewhat lacking, but is the fix easier than simply trashing the old hardware in favor of the newest shiny multi-core on the market? Find out in this video from today's TLDR episode. You can watch the entire live TLDR episode here: www.youtube.com www.lockergnome.com profiles.google.com twitter.com www.facebook.com

Newegg TV: How To Build a Computer - Part 2 - The BuildFeb 22, 2012
www.newegg.com Welcome to Part 2 of Newegg TV's How To Build a Computer tutorial The Build! In this episode we've gone for epic-scale length and detail. We have two complete builds to share, and step-by-step instructions for how they're put together. To make the video even longer, the first half covers an "external build", which involves connecting your core components outside the case to do a test boot and make sure everything is working. Defective parts are rare, but they can put a damper on your build if they're not identified early in the process. Next up is installing parts into the case, cable routing, and the moment of truth: the first boot after assembly is complete. Enjoy!
